community workshop – hand cut paper collage, mixed media and silhouette photography.
For six weeks during the first quarter of 2020, I lived in a shared private residence (offered to artists and travelers alike) The Residency Project in Pasadena CA. I stole away to reignite my artistic practice and to explore a deeper connection with my creativity. This investment garnered me time and space to listen, to breathe and to be inspired.
Toward the end of my retreat, I facilitated a two-part workshop, called Effigies of Beauty, with a group of eight women. In the context of the workshop, the word “effigy “ is related to the bodies and shapes of the women participants. Through a hands-on process, we co-created individual projects to prompt self-positive thinking. Each participant left with a personalized original artwork that both they and I contributed to.
The Residency Retreat culminated in a community sharing event. I continue to iterate this workshop series and most recently hosted communities of women and girls in Dallas, Wichita Falls, TX and Southern California.
